Standards & Materials

Check the specification before comparing price

What does API 5L PSL2 mean?

PSL2 is the higher product specification level in API 5L / ISO 3183. It adds requirements for chemistry, mechanical properties, inspection and marking. PSL2 is not a steel grade; the grade must still be stated, for example X65 or X80. LSAW pipe is normally quoted for large-diameter transmission lines, subject to project requirements.

What is the difference between LSAW and seamless pipe?

LSAW pipe is formed from plate and has one longitudinal submerged-arc weld. It is normally used for larger-diameter lines, commonly from about 16 inches upward. Seamless pipe has no longitudinal weld and is used for smaller diameters, process pipe, boiler tube and oilfield tubulars. The governing project specification determines the acceptable product form.

What is the difference between ASTM A106 Gr.B and A53 Gr.B?

ASTM A106 Gr.B is a seamless carbon steel pipe specification for high-temperature service. ASTM A53 covers seamless Type S and welded pipe for general service. They are different specifications and should not be substituted without engineering approval.

What is the difference between A335 P91 and P92?

Both are 9% chromium alloy steel grades for high-temperature service. P91 is the established 9Cr-1Mo-V grade. P92 is designed for higher creep strength at elevated temperature. Selection must follow the design code, pressure, temperature and project specification; they are not interchangeable without engineering approval.

What is API 5CT K55 casing used for?

API 5CT K55 casing is commonly used for surface and intermediate casing in oil and gas wells. Size, weight, thread, coupling, length and inspection requirements must be stated in the purchase order. K55 is not a substitute for higher-strength grades where the well design requires N80, L80 or P110.
