Where this pipe is used
- Long-distance natural gas transmission pipelines
- Long-distance crude oil transmission pipelines
- Acidic (sour) service oil and gas pipelines
- Submarine oil and gas pipelines
- Refined product pipelines
- Urban gas pipeline networks
Specification routes
Pipe is organised and supplied to API 5LISO 3183 GB/T 9711 or to a project-specific technical specification. For submarine transportation pipelines the technical requirements of DNVGL-ST-F101 can be met. For acidic service, in addition to API 5L and ISO 3813 (ISO 3183) requirements, pipe can be produced to meet the relevant requirements of NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 with the specific HIC / SSC test acceptance criteria agreed for the project.
Typical project scenarios
1. Long-distance gas transmission, West Africa. X65 PSL2, Ø914 × 19.1 mm, 12 m random lengths with 3LPE coating. The governing requirements are low-temperature impact toughness for the installation season and girth-weld compatibility on site — both are confirmed at the quotation stage rather than after rolling.
2. Sour crude gathering line, North Africa. X52 PSL2 with hardness control and HIC / SSC testing. Here the risk is hydrogen-induced cracking rather than strength, so chemistry, heat treatment and hardness limits are agreed before the rolling schedule is fixed.
3. Submarine export line. Pipe to DNVGL-ST-F101 with tight dimensional control and verified impact properties, plus coating and pipe-end preparation suited to the installation method.
What to send for a firm quotation
- Standard and grade (for example API 5L X65 PSL2)
- Outside diameter × wall thickness, or the line class
- Total quantity (tonnes or metres) and length type
- End finish (beveled, plain, or with a specified bevel angle) and pipe-end protection
- Coating system, if required
- Destination port and required Incoterm
- Inspection requirements — third-party inspector, HIC/SSC, project specification

Line pipe questions
LSAW or seamless — which is right for a transmission pipeline?
Above roughly 16 inches (406 mm) LSAW is the normal choice for line pipe: the diameter is not economically produced seamless, the wall thickness range is wider, and the weld is subjected to X-ray and phased-array ultrasonic testing before and after expansion. Seamless is used mainly for smaller diameters and for specific process duties.
Can you produce PSL2 with impact testing at low temperature?
Yes. Chemistry, rolling practice and heat treatment are adjusted to achieve the required impact energy at the design minimum temperature stated in the project specification.
Do you arrange third-party inspection at the mill?
Yes — SGS, BV, Intertek, TÜV or your nominated inspector can attend before loading. Please confirm at the inquiry stage so it is planned into the production schedule.
Can pipe be supplied together with coating and fittings?
Yes. Coating is applied on our automated line, and bends, tees, reducers and prefabricated spools can be supplied so that the site receives matched materials from one supplier.
